from family chats to innovation
So, how did this all start? One summer evening, while sitting on the back deck with my family, we were sharing stories about chicken-keeping needs. It was my mom who sparked the conversation that led to this idea —why couldn't we design our own tool for cleaning chicken coops? That’s when the concept was born, and the journey to create the Coop Scoop® began.
With a jewelry design background, I’m no stranger to intricate designs and fine details. So, I fired up my CAD software (usually reserved for my jewelry projects) and drafted the initial design. What came out of my tiny home 3D printer was... well, let's just say it was a humble beginning. But every great idea starts somewhere, right?
Determined to make it better, I set out to blend the best features of two essential tools: a rake and a sifting shovel. The first design featured tines and loads of tiny sifting holes—it worked and sifted wonderfully but was just too fragile for everyday use. We needed something sturdy, something durable. After all, the Coop Scoop® was meant to be a keeper’s best friend, not just another tool.
We went back to the drawing board, literally. I tweaked the designs, played with the hole sizes, and yes, we even tried a version without the tines. But during molting season, it was clear those tines were indispensable for raking up feathers and debris. Finally, after about 100 digital tweaks and 10 different prototypes, we nailed it—a robust design with the perfect balance of functionality and durability.
And here we are now, ready to share the Coop Scoop® with you! Made right here in the USA, this tool isn't just a product; it’s a game-changer for chicken enthusiasts everywhere. It represents not just innovation, but a deep understanding of what real chicken keepers need every day. It’s time to make coop cleaning less of a chore and more like a zen garden experience.

Typically, no. Hemp and pine are too large, and chicken waste too small, to be siftable. However, there are some very fine hemp substrates on the market and fine sawdust that the Coop Scoop® can work with.
The Coop Scoop® is made from a durable polycarbonate material that is sourced from post-industrial waste. The wooden handle is made from pine and coated with a lacquer finish.

The Coop Scoop® features a long handle ergonomically angled to remove waste from the floor of your coop and run. Because of this ideal positioning, you may need to use a 'rake and scoop' method for your shelf or elevated coop. Simply rake the waste towards you and then scoop to sift!
